Tacx Real life videos Sicily

Tacx Real life videos Sicily

In June Jaap Wagenvoort gfe (GoPro filmmaker extraordinaire 🙂 ) and myself have been filming in Sicily for three (Tacx compatible) Real Life Videos. I’ve already posted the trailers, but now I can present you the finished videos! Video 1: Sicily – Erice This RLV brings you to the archeologic park of Segesta, to the Garibaldi monument (Pianto Romano) and through a hilly landscape to the town of Valderice where the climb towards the Medieval town of Erice  (750 meters above sea level) starts. The Erice RLV includes 4 serious climbs totaling over 1.500m vertical ascent, but the maximum grade is ‘just’ 9%, so very trainer-friendly! Erice guarantees at least 2,5h of pure indoor training fun and you get to learn the beauty of Sicily along the way! The trailer: Order here Video 2: Sicily – Bosco d’Alcamo This Bosco d’Alcamo RLV is 18,6km long. It includes a nice warm-up in the valley near the town of Alcamo, a tough climb towards the Bosco d’Alcamo and a nice cooling down....

Cycling in sunny Sicily: photos from a cycling guide

Cycling in sunny Sicily: photos from a cycling guide

In the next few days I will be cycling with some American and English cyclists and I was thinking about the cyclists to whom I’ve already shown this part of La bella Sicilia this year. So far, I cycled with Dutch, American, English, Irish, Scottish, German, French, Israeli, Belgian and Romanian cyclists and I had a great time with all of them. In this post I’ll show you some pics I took during a few of those rides. The first cyclist, Sorin, came from Romania and stayed here in February. We went for a bike ride to Carini and Montelepre and to the medieval town of Erice and back. A weeks later we had some Israeli guests with whom I did a short bike ride to the town of Terrasini. In April I cycled with several English cyclist in sunny Sicily: In May this year I had the pleasure of being a guide for a group of Dutch friends who wanted to a sporting activity together. A bike ride...

Teaser training video: cycling in Sicily, riding with Don Bici

The RLV Sicily – Don Bici is now available! Buy it here. I’ve been tweeting about Jaap Wagenvoort gfe (GoPro filmmaker extraordinaire 🙂 ) and myself filming in Sicily for the upcoming (Tacx compatible) Real Life Videos. We are working on the following titles: Bike ride to the medieval town of Erice (*) The Bosco di Alcamo climb Riding with Don Bici (*) Shorter versions, to the temple of Segesta or the Garibaldi monument at Pianto Romano, will also be available. In the RLV “Riding with Don Bici” we’ll be taking you on a ride through the towns of Balestrate and Trappeto to the climb of Carini and the descent at Montelepre. After this warming up ride with me, I’ll leave you to finish the ride on your own. Expect a lovely climb to the Santuario di Romitello and the antenna on the top of the mountain (highest gradient 15%). The first part including the climb at Carini and the descent at Montelepre is a route I take most of...

We’ve made it! Stories from a cycling guide in Sicily

We’ve made it! Stories from a cycling guide in Sicily

A few days ago, I had the pleasure of being a cycling guide for a group of Dutch friends. Every year these guys go on a short trip together and this year they decided to come to Sicily. Leo, the organizer of the trip, had asked me whether I could come up with some nice activities for the boys. I proposed a bike ride and they all loved the idea! So I arranged the rental bikes and on May 17th we all went to Eurobici in Partinico to pick them up and to go for a 55 km bike ride. After mounting the required pedals and setting the right saddle height for everybody, we were ready to go. Two friends were unable to ride with us, so they would drive the “broom wagon”, a large Ford Transit they had rented for their holiday. I wasn’t told beforehand that there was only one cyclist in the group and that the others usually don’t ride a bike other than to go to...

On my favorite climb, near Carini (PA)

On my favorite climb, near Carini (PA)

The climb near the town of Carini (PA) is one of my favorites: not because of the level of difficulty (it’s mostly 5 – 7%), but because of the route itself: you start near the town, ride to the castle in the “centro storico” of Carini and then follow for Montelepre. During the climb you have some great views of the town and the sea. This is a ride a do a lot as a cycling guide (see route L5 on the on-Sicily website), because halfway on the descent you’ll have the choice to either turn right and go home (following the route) or go straight ahead and do another climb (see route L6 on the on-Sicily website). Then near Ponte di Sagana (PA) you can either go back or go left and follow route...
